 "Coping With COVID: Strategies for Mental Wellness for People with Down Syndrome and Their Families"

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought unprecedented challenges including fear of infection, disrupted routines, and social isolation. "Coping With COVID: Strategies for Mental Wellness for People with Down Syndrome and Their Families" will provide parents and caregivers of children and adults with Down syndrome strategies for coping with these challenges. This webinar will focus on helping parents build a foundation of emotion skills and resilience, recognize warning signs of stress and other mental health symptoms, and tips for seeking help when needed. She will review her free "Blues Busters" workbook during the presentation and other publicly available resources developed to help people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. There will be time for Q&A following the presentation.

Dr. Ruth BrownDr. Ruth Brown is an assistant professor and psychologist at Virginia Commonwealth University. Her research focuses on improving the diagnosis and treatment of anxiety, depression, and stress in people with Down syndrome and other developmental disabilities. She is also the author of a free downloadable workbook, Blue Busters - Building Resilience to Stress, Depression, and Anxiety. She has written this book to help parents support their children with Down syndrome who are experiencing periods of stress, anxiety and depression.
