 Music Therapy

The Down Syndrome Connection has a board-certified music therapy team who offers an integrative approach to music therapy, meeting virtually 6 times each month. It is a fun, engaging, and therapeutic environment, that requires no musical experience or skill.

What Is Music Therapy?

Music therapy takes the joy and power of music, and combines it with the goals of a traditional therapy session. Music therapy interventions such as singing, instrument playing, music improvisation, songwriting, music and movement, and musical games are used to address speech, physical, academic, cognitive, and behavioral goals. It can also strengthen family connections, as caretakers are encouraged to participate.

What are the benefits of Music Therapy?

Music therapy encourages individuals to express themselves freely and creates opportunities for growth and success in a safe and fun environment at the Down Syndrome Connection.

Research supports that music therapy has the ability to enhance mood, increase attention, expand speech with singing, increase motor movements through rhythm, and promote positive behaviors to optimize a student’s ability to learn and interact.

We hope you’ll join us!
